I should rewrite my blog in 11ty.
I’ve been procrastinating on this thought for… a couple of years, I guess? Until I stopped being a student, and lost free access to GitHub Pro. Not a big loss, but my previous Jekyll powered blog was using GitHub pages in a private repo. In December, blog.inex.rocks went offline.
And here we are. At inex.blog, rewritten in Astro.
Why Astro?
Just like with 11ty, I’ve been hearing a lot about Astro around fedi. So, I decided to try out both. Both are “super fast”, both are a shitton of JS, both generate static pages.
11ty gave a very good first impression, but Astro had more useful stuff out of the box. It also feels better, and somewhat more similar to Svelte, which I like. I might also use Svelte elements right here, but I don’t need to, because Astro components are quite similar and enough for static sites.
This wouldn't be a proper blog without a speaking character component!
My blog is bilingual now!
I think in different languages. Sometimes it is Russian, sometimes English, rarely German. So I decided to make this blog bilingual. Every post will have a primary language—a language I’ve been thinking in while writing a post. A post might also have a translation to another language.
You will see the following language indicators around the blog:
Sometimes while writing a post, my brain might switch between languages. I decided to embrace that!
Blog settings
This blog is available in a bunch of different color schemes, each inspired by my characters. You can switch between them if you have JS turned on: just click “⚙️” at the top. Your choice will be saved in your browser’s local storage.
As there are 14 themes available, something might look wrong in a specific theme. Please report me these bugs.
What’s next?
I’m going to add more stuff here, including different slash pages and posts. This website is quite barebones right now, and it will gradually improve over time.
Right now, I just had to release something that works, so I have a place to post stuff :3
P.S. RSS link changed, obviously. Vovan, you might want to resubscribe.
